I love Ahsoka Tano. In fact, I think Ahsoka is the most important character in the history of Star Wars who wasn’t in the Original Trilogy or the Prequel Trilogy. Voiced by Ashley Eckstein, Ahsoka made her debut in the animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) as Anakin Skywalker’s fourteen-year-old Padawan learner. She grew up fighting in the Clone Wars and would ultimately choose to leave the Jedi Order (in S5) before the war’s end. Ahsoka was the first fully developed female Jedi with agency, growth, and character arcs of her own to appear on screen in Star Wars history. Others would follow over The Clone Wars seven seasons but it began with her. And she’s amazing! Incidentally, I also adore Rosario Dawson as an actor. So I should be jazzed about Disney+’s new live action Ahsoka series, right? You’d think so, but it frustrates me. Star Wars jumped the shark when Dave Filoni wouldn’t kill Ahsoka and the ramifications have polluted one of Star Wars’ most important lessons.
Note, this piece has no spoilers for Ahsoka E1-3.
