I'm sitting outside on my porch swing with my journal in my lap and I'm leaving Bonnie a voice mail as it's a bit cold outside, so I'm a little bundled up.
"Hey, Bonnie, it's me just checking in, seeing how you're doing. We miss you here. Don't let your aunt drive you too crazy," I say and see Jenna smile at me with her coffee and I smile back.
"Come home soon. Love you," I say and hang up.
"What are you doing out here? It's cold," she says, smiling a little more.
"Thinking, writing. The, uh, funeral for Bonnie's grandma, it brought back a lot about mom and dad. I was wondering. . . you said that you would do some digging about them, the adoption?" I ask and she nods, smiling again.
"Right."
"So, did you? Dig?" I ask and she nods her head to the door.
"Come on inside," she says and I follow her inside.

"Your dad kept everything from his medical practice- records, logs, old appointment books," she says, picking one up and flips through the page about the night I was born.
