Barton Carroll is a rare breed
As time goes by, I find that it becomes harder and harder to find quality storytellers in music. Barton Carroll is one of the few exceptions. After touring and recording with Crooked Fingers, Carroll decided to develop his solo career with his second album, Love & War. With guitar in hand, Carroll delicately crafts engaging stories through a diverse musical array of acoustic and electric guitar styles. From teenage war refugees to mothers in times of financial depression, Carroll often uses characters from the past as a tool for musical creation. With aged vocals that are comparable to Nick Cave, Carroll uses all of his skills to create extremely memorable songs.
‘Cat On A Bench’ is one of Carroll’s more electrical-oriented songs, with a striking electric violin slowly weeping behind a jagged electric guitar. Crooked Fingers
American indie rock band
Crooked Fingers was an American indie rock band, led by the former Archers of Loaf frontman Eric Bachmann. A vehicle for Bachmann's songwriting, the band's lineup changed between each record. Crooked Fingers released albums on WARM Records and Merge Records, and also independently. Bachmann retired the name Crooked Fingers in January 2016 with a pair of shows in New York City and Durham, NC, playing the first two records in their entirety with a string ensemble and has since been releasing albums under his name.
History
[edit]Following the breakup of Archers of Loaf in 1998, Bachmann's next project was a solo venture he named Crooked Fingers. The first release, a self-titled record, was released by WARM in 2000. It was followed shortly after by a second album on WARM, Bring on the Snakes. He also contributed a track to Badlands: A Tribute to Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska.
Crooked Fingers signed to Merge, and released Reservoir SongsEP in 2002, composed of cover songs of artists such as Neil Diamond and Queen. In 2003, they released Red Devil Dawn, their first full-length for Merge.
