Well-known Malayalam short story writer C V Sreeraman died in a private hospital at Thrissur on Wednesday evening, family sources said. He was 75 and survived by wife and two children.
Some of Sreeraman's stories have been successfuly made into films. Sreeraman's widely appreciated stories include Vasthuhara, Irikkappindam, Chidambaram, Ponthanmada and Seemathampuram.
He had been undergoing treatment in the hospital for the last few days, the sources said. A popular writer, Sreeraman's short stories stood out for their straight narrative technique and lucid style even as he chose complex human experiences as the themes.
Born in Kunnamkulam near here, Sreeraman had his school education in Sri Lanka [Images]. Later, he returned to India with his parents and took degree in law from the Madras Law College.
For seven years, he worked in the Rehabilitation Department of the Andaman and Nicobar islands, which provided the theme for some his memorable stories.
A Communist right from his student days, Sreeraman served as the president of Chovvanur panchayat for seven years and was actively associated with the pro-CP1-M cultural outfit Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sangham.
He was a recipient of the Kendra Sahitya Akademi and Kerala [Images] Sahitya Akademi awards.

Vettiyattil Krishnan Sreeraman (born 6 February 1953)[1] is an Indian film actor, writer, TV anchor and social worker.
Personal life and education[edit]
He was born into a middle-class family at Cheruvathani village near Kunnamkulam, situated in Thrissur district of Kerala. His father V. C. Krishnan worked in Ceylon as a Hotel Manager while his mother Bhargavi Krishnan was a teacher by profession. Sreeraman is the second son of his parents, following an elder brother named Jayaprakash (b. 1948), and preceding an unnamed younger brother, who died soon after he was born. He had his education from Vaduthala Upper Primary School (Where his mother worked), St. George High School Thozhiyoor, Government Higher Secondary School Kunnamkulam and College of Fine Arts, Thrissur. He is married to Geetha, and has two children - a daughter named Lakshmi, and a son named Harikrishnan.[2]
