David Louis Newman (born March 11, 1954) is an American composer and conductor known particularly for his film scores. In a career spanning more than thirty years, he has composed music for nearly 100 feature films, as well as the 1997 and 1998 versions of the 20th Century Fox fanfare. He received an Academy Award nomination for writing the score to the 1997 film Anastasia, contributing to the Newmans being the most nominated Academy Award extended family, with a collective 92 nominations in various music categories.
Life and career
[edit]Newman was born on March 11, 1954, in Los Angeles, California, the son of Mississippi-born Martha Louis (née Montgomery) and Hollywood composer Alfred Newman. His paternal grandparents were Russian Jewish immigrants.[1] He is the older brother of Thomas Newman, Maria Newman and the cousin of Randy Newman, all of whom are also composers. He is also the nephew of composers Lionel Newman and Emil Newman, and first cousin, once removed, of musician Joey Newman. Doctor Accused Of Assaulting Sedated Patient
A respected Manhattan emergency room doctor has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a patient while she was sedated by morphine.
Dr David Newman, 45, allegedly targeted the woman on 11 January when she was admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital with a back pain complaint, police said.
The 29-year-old told police the attack began after Newman gave her an extra shot of morphine, even though she had already received a dose of the drug from a nurse.
As she drifted in and out of consciousness in a private room at the Upper East Side facility, she said she was aware of the doctor groping her and touching himself.
Police said the alleged victim was too incapacitated by the drug to stop him.
She kept her hospital gown in a plastic bag to preserve any DNA evidence, investigators said.
Newman, of Montclair, New Jersey, is charged with assault, sexual abuse and facilitating a sexual offence.
He appeared in court on Tuesday night, where a judge ordered him detained on $50,000 (£35,000) cash bail.
Following recent publicity of the case, a 22-year-old woman came forward at the weekend to accuse Newman of sexually assaulting her during an examination last September.
Mount Sinai said the doctor had been suspended pending the out
