  • The Riverside Art Museum is showcasing works from the past decade of a Southern California performance painter. The exhibition is titled: “Backward Forward and Upside Down: Gregory Adamson, a Ten-Year Beginning” and runs through April 25.

Adamson, who lives in Redlands, is known for his warp-speed art gigs. In just minutes, he creates huge canvases of historical leaders, sports figures, musical icons and other pop celebrities as he paints to music with bare hands or brushes. Over the years, his works have evolved from highly representational to more abstract and expressionist.

Since Adamson started performance painting 10 years ago he’s become a widely known artist and studio painter. Hi works are commissioned by major corporations and private collectors and have also raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity, said Riverside Art Museum’ executive director Drew Oberjuerge.

She said Adamson’s recent experimentation with mixed media and three-dimensional forms in this collection portends his future path, which is not necessarily focused on painting.

For this exhibition, Adamson, artist-in-residence, has organized a series of interactive happenings. Riverside Art Museum, 3425 Mission Inn Ave., Riverside. Admission: $5 general; $3 for
