    Dans chaque version, qui dure environ plusieurs semaines, un groupe de célébrités doivent vivre ensemble dans une maison, isolée de l'extérieur mais filmée continuellement par des caméras de télévision. Les candidats sont en compétition pour gagner la première place, mais chaque semaine, certains d'entre eux sont soumis au vote du public, entraînant le départ de l'un d'entre eux de la maison pour celui ayant récolté le moins de votes. Dans certains cas, deux candidats peuvent être expulsés simultanément ou, rarement, aucun candidat ne part pour la semaine. À la fin du jeu, le dernier candidat restant est déclaré vainqueur de l'émission.

    Les candidats doivent aussi faire n'importe quels travaux domestiques. Les tâches sont conçues pour examiner leurs capacités et esprit de communauté dans le travail en équipe, et dans quelques pays, le budget des achats dépend souvent du résultat de l'ensemble de toutes les tâches.

    Ciril Bergles was born in 1934 in Repče near Ljubljana. He spent the greater part of his youth in Vrhnika, where he managed an amateur theatre mostly staging Cankar’s plays. Bergles graduated from the Poljane grammar school and obtained a BA in the Slavic and English languages from the Faculty of Art, Ljubljana University. He also studied directing at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television. For a number of years he was a teacher and principal at various Ljubljana schools. Now he mostly writes poetry, which he started publishing relatively late. He has published twelve collections of poetry and fourteen translations from Spanish and Hispanic poetry. He has also edited an anthology of Slovenian émigré poetry of the last forty years entitled This Tree Grows Abroad.
